Kinchoi Lam is an artist and lecturer based in Hong Kong. Kinchoi began his picture book journey in 2016, driven by a passion for creating local stories that inspire the next generation. In 2017, he published his first book, Little Big Tram, which tells a heartwarming tale about Hong Kong's iconic trams—an endearing aspect of the city's history that resonates with many readers.
To enhance his skills, Kinchoi traveled to the UK, where he earned a master’s degree in Children’s book illustration. Upon returning to Hong Kong in 2020, he has excitedly released several notable titles, including Journey to Mars (2021), The Secret Journey of the Star Ferry (2022), Nomads: Life on the Move (2022), and The Playground of Little Jumbo (2024).
His vibrant illustrations have garnered significant recognition, including features in the Illustrators Exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and a shortlist position for the World Illustration Award in 2020. Kinchoi also won the Children’s Illustration category at the Batsford Prize in 2021. Most recently, Journey to Mars was selected for The White Ravens in 2022, and The Playground of Little Jumbo was chosen for the BRAW Amazing Bookshelf in the Bologna Ragazzi Award as well as the Feng Zikai Chinese Children’s Picture Book Award 2025.
